We are excited to feature Sisu Designs as our October Yarn Store of the Month. Sisu is a versatile store in Ely that you can travel to in the Summer as you have your adventures up north and travel with them in the winter when you are looking for knitting community. Anna the shop owner learned about Sisu when she was in college when she met a person who had lived in the shop for the winter to help keep the fire going. After college Anna was working for the forest preserve in Cook and stopped in at the shop for supplies for her knitting. She asked the store owner if she could stay at the store for the winter and that is when it began.
Although Sisu isn’t a large shop, Anna curates a great selection of natural fiber and something for every project. She sources yarns with knitters in mind. She has carried many different indy dyers and currently sources from Polka Dot Sheep Yarns. With her customers in mind Anna dabbled in dyeing and enjoyed it. Now the store carrys great selection of kits available on Sisu’s site that are dyed by Anna using both vegetable based and acid based dyes.
In the winter when Ely slows down the shop is only open on Saturdays. This allows Anna to curate some great knitting retreats during the off months. Whether it is the YMCA camp just outside of Ely, the Naniboujou Lodge on Lake Superior or New Mexico, there is always a place to relax with other knitters and enjoy a weekend away. The January YMCA camp retreat will be opening for registrations soon. Check out the website for all of the details on the retreats.
When you go on retreats in Minnesota with Sisu the whole yarn shop comes with for the adventure. So you are not only hanging out with knitters, you are doing it in the yarn shop. With that in mind and with many retreats just wrapping up or kicking off, if you see something out of stock, just check back, it will be back in stock shortly.

After growing up in the city and suburbs, the owners of Get Bentz Farm felt a need to be closer to nature and to be more connected to where their food came from.
