We are excited to partner with Kato Yarn Company as the July Yarn Store of the Month. I am sure you have met some of Shelly’s awesome color ideas at Yarnover in the past, but let’s get to know more about her and her yarn dyeing adventure. Shelly learned to crochet from her grandmother when she was young. Her grandmother always had knitting needles in with her crochet hooks and Shelly wanted to learn. Her grandmother wasn’t a knitter and couldn’t teach her. When Shelly was pregnant with her first child she wanted to make both a knit and crocheted blanket. She got a book and taught herself how to knit. Later she discovered a local yarn store and took classes and was off to the races.
In 2019 Shelly met her first skein of hand-dyed yarn. She loved the color and was excited to see if she could too could make some great color expressions. It was so much fun she just couldn’t stop. You can only have so many hanks of yarn on hand until you realize you need an outlet. She tried Etsy at first, but in the meantime she discovered makers festivals and fiber festivals and knew that was a better path to meet the people using her yarn and let them touch and feel her yarn. She still gets so much joy taking a white hank of yarn and turning it into whatever she wants.
An avid sock knitter she loves big color statements and neons to make that awesome foot statement. Shelly also sews and turns her cheeky interpretation into project bags that can match any personality.
July is a great month to feature Shelly and Kato Yarn as it is the Big Summer Sale! Now is the perfect time to take the plunge if you haven’t tried Kato’s colors before or stock up for your Fall knitting projects.
