We are excited to feature Dappled Fern Fibers as our February Yarn Store of the month. This is an exciting time for Dapple Fern as Kristin Lindholm has just taken over as the new owner starting at the beginning of the year. There are many great things to come to the store with the transition and we hope you get a chance to stop in this summer as you are exploring the North Shore.
Kristin started her knitting adventure when she was in college and as many do their first time knitting thought it just wasn’t for her. After her first child was born she had a patient friend from church sit with her during nap time and helped her learn and appreciate the craft. This brought her deep into the world of knitting. A family transition to the Breezy Pointe area for her and her husband’s education careers, took them on the next step and they became a fiber farmers. They raised a small flock of Cormo sheep and enjoyed raising their children on their family farm. The next life transition was a dream to move to the North Shore and although they said goodbye to their flock of sheep, they said hello to the new and welcoming community of Grand Marais.
The first store Kristin saw when exploring the downtown was Dappled Fern and Dorothy the former owner became a friend. Kristin worked in the store during the busy summer season for several years when Dorothy approached her about potentially taking over the store. Kristin is excited to start her next adventure with the store and grow the community. With the recent transition some items may be low on inventory today, but this will change and evolve monthly leading up to the busy summer months. Check back regularly and see how the Dappled Fern story changes and grows.
Dappled Fern has partnered with Sister Weekend Yarn Co to create a Grand Marais themed yarn. The yarn is inspired by all of the things you see along the North Shore. Kristin loves the Ruffle Fox Socks pattern that features this yarn. The store also features many of your favorites and inventory will continue to evolve. Kristin recommends the Wild Ice Hat for your winter knitting, which is great with all of the color options from Malabrigo.
Dapple Fern is located 15 South Broadway Avenue in Grand Marais. If you are on the North Shore check out Knitting on the Beach dates and join in with local knitters. Sign up for the newsletter and stay up to date with all of the fun changes happening at the store.

After growing up in the city and suburbs, the owners of Get Bentz Farm felt a need to be closer to nature and to be more connected to where their food came from.
