Students will explore essential chart-reading skills, including understanding symbols, interpreting chart keys, and troubleshooting. By the end of the course, students will confidently be able to tackle charted patterns.

  • worsted weight yarn (in a light color)
  • US 8/5mm needles
  • colored pencils or highlighters

PM9 - Picking Pockets: Choosing the Perfect Pocket Style for Your Knitted Garment

Description:

Pockets are not just functional additions to garments; they can also enhance the aesthetic appeal and versatility of your knitted creations. In this class, we will delve into various techniques for adding pockets to both new knitted garments and existing ones. By the end of this workshop, you’ll be equipped with the skills to create side seam pockets and cut-in, after-thought pockets.

 
 
 
Supplies Needed:
  • 1 skein worsted weight yarn in a light color
  • US 8/5mm knitting needles
  • darning needle
  • scissors
  • double-pointed needles: US 8/5mm and US 3/3.25mm
Homework:
  • Side Seam Pocket Homework: In a light colored worsted weight yarn, knit two swatches (do NOT work border on the swatches); each measuring 25 stitches x 30 rows.  Cast on 15 stitches for a third swatch; knitting until the piece measures 3 inches.  Leave the stitches on the needle or secure them with a stitch holder.
  • Afterthought Pocket Homework: In a light colored worsted weight yarn, knit one swatch 25 stitches x 30 rows in stockinette stitch.
