Our February Yarn Shop of the Month is Warm & Wooly in North Branch. Because of the more isolated location they focus on all of the fiber crafts from spinning to weaving, knitting to crochet. They focus on creating a fiber community for people to get together and share their craft. Warm and Wooly will be moving and expanding in March to create expanded classes and add a cafe, where people can spend the day with others in a great fiber focused environment.
Because they are the only yarn shop for more than 30 miles they care a variety of price points and a range of fiber from acrylic to fine wools. They have large scale brands as well as small local hand dyed yarns from great names like Knitting Lizard and Alainn Yarns. THey carry della Q maker’s bags and will be having a trunk show in April after the store moves.
Kaitlyn learned to knit when she was 12 but never finished a project. In 2019, she fell in love with crocheting after being asked to crochet a washcloth as a gift. Never having crocheted before, and not thinking she would enjoy it, she borrowed hooks for the first two projects and learned the bare minimum to be able to finish them decently. Little did she know that the love for crochet and fiber arts would only grow from there! After seeing the positive impact crocheting made on her own mental health, she started teaching youth how to crochet. After teaching crochet within youth development jobs for a few years, she started teaching online through TakeLessons in summer 2022. With every new student she fell more in love with teaching and fiber arts. She is deeply committed to making Warm and Wooly something special for the community and hopes to see other people find something wonderful there!
