Main presentation by Paola Vanzo of myak yarns – Born in Tibet, crafted in Italy. The mYak journey from the Tibetan Plateau to the foothills of the Italian Alps. How two Italian friends embarked on a fiber journey to support communities of nomadic herders on the Plateau at 7:00pm CT.
Whilst working for non-profit organizations within the vast high-altitude grasslands of the Tibetan Plateau, Paola and Andrea developed a strong connection to its people, culture and traditions. Shaped by meaningful experiences encountered during their support of nomadic communities (via Paola’s skills in education and management alongside Andrea as a vet), they developed a deep understanding of Tibetan culture – including the origins of sustainable yak and cashmere yarns with practices honed by nomadic communities for centuries. Inspired by their experiences and drawing on a Tibetan mindset which ‘interweaves human life, nature, and animals’, they embarked on co-founding ethical yarn brand mYak fibres.
Speaking to Paola, we discover the story of their brand and how it honours Tibetan culture whilst adopting high-quality Italian yarn manufacturing processes.
The trunk show with North Bay Fiber is back on and will start at 6:30pm CT.
