Behind the Seams: Knitting for the Entertainment Industry with Krista Ann of Explore with Knitsy
Most knitters watch movies or TV shows and see knits on the screen and might appreciate the design or pattern, but rarely think about who actually stitched all of those stitches! Krista Ann has made a career out of working with costume and fashion designers to create knits for film, TV, and the runway. There is a lot that goes into the process of creating these knits. So many details have to be taken into consideration when working with designers – the fibers, drape, colors, shapes, and sizing are all discussed in great length. Join Krista at this virtual event as she shares “Behind the Seams” stories about knitting for the entertainment industry.
Krista Ann is a nomadic knitter. In 2019, after 20 years in Los Angeles, she talked her husband into selling their house and just about everything in it to live life on the road. They moved with their fur baby, Phinny, into an RV and began touring the USA as well as taking several international trips. Years of working for costume and fashion designers has allowed Krista to create some fun – and often unique – knit and crochet pieces for film, TV, commercials, and streetwear fashion designers. With filming happening all over the world, it ended up that it didn’t matter where she was located. Some of her projects include Stranger Things (Netflix), The Mindy Project (Hulu), TAG the movie, Annabelle Comes Home, Never Have I Ever (Netflix), iCarly (Nickelodeon), Hocus Pocus 2 (Disney+), and many other film and commercial projects.
Krista loves designing knitwear and teaching knitting. As a designer, she excels in replicating pieces to fit specific actors’ measurements, creating designs from a costume or fashion designer’s sketch, and writing patterns that are easy to follow so other knitters can enjoy her creations. With a degree in Liberal Arts and a multiple subject teaching credential, teaching knitting has become a natural transition. She teaches through her Knitting Rockstar Academy online as well as in person at yarn shops during their travels.
The business section of this meeting will include our Annual Report where the board updates the membership on the state of the Guild, its budget and future plans.
