In the last issue of the Cable Gram, the Knitting in the Northland article was authored by Alice Adams, long-time Guild member and founder and first president of the Northern Lights Affiliate. The article intended to communicate a non-traditional way of knitting the sleeves of Fair Isle sweaters that has been adopted by a group of northland knitters. Because multiple editorial changes were made that may have obscured this message, we would like to make the original manuscript available to interested readers.

Yarnover is just 20 days away! Do you have your Yarnover shawl ready?
Inspired by the concept of the Rhinebeck sweater — a glorious showing of beautiful fall sweaters worn by attendees of the famed sheep and wool festival in upstate NY — we’re inviting anyone who’d like to participate in this new Guild tradition to wear a shawl to the Meet The Teachers Dinner on Friday, April 21st.
If your shawl is voted the best of the night, you could win this wonderful basket courtesy of Knit Picks.
This lace lovers basket contains cedar blocks, delicate wash, a shawl pin, a lace chart mug, calendar, Alpaca Cloud yarn, metal stitch markers, blocking pins, tapestry needles, a needle case, a fiber flair pin and blocking wires.
Here are all the details to participate…
Wear a shawl that you made to the Meet the Teachers dinner.
Have your shawl photographed for the slideshow, which will play during dinner.
Attendees will cast their vote for their favorite shawls.
The knitter of the shawl with the most votes wins the prize basket.
All of the patterns were designed to use our 2017 Great Guild Getaway Yarn, North Shore Winter, which was custom dyed by Three Irish Girls. We will have a limited quantity of the yarn available for sale at the Guild table at Yarnover.
Get the most out of your love of knitting! Membership benefits include pre-registration for Yarnover, a subscription to our quarterly Cable Gram, organized public service projects and camaraderie with fellow knitters. Annual dues are $30.
